Reflections
on the Psalms
by C. S. Lewis
Completed October 2002
I’ve read a couple of
books by C. S. Lewis, and (other than the Screwtape Letters) seem to have
the same reaction after I’m finished: I liked it while I was reading it and
found pearls of wisdom in Lewis’ comments and analysis – but I’m left mostly
with a sense of density. Lewis’ writing is dense. He doesn’t have one point
which he builds to throughout his book – he has many, many insights, which
(when one is reading him on a commute) stand out for a moment, but fade into a
general sense that his books are dense with wisdom. I am left wanting more time
and more energy with which to concentrate on his books. And, perhaps, a guide (a
gloss) to help me understand in more detail each of his myriad ideas.
