The Great Gatsby
by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Completed June 2000
I'd forgotten how vapid and completely lacking in redeeming qualities The Great Gatsby's characters are. The book saddens me. Two people of many talents (and potentially great passion) who throw away their lives.... Fitzgerald's prodigious narrative and descriptive abilities do redeem the overall experience, though: his talent makes their wastefulness and emptiness so palpable.
